A dedicated teacher of all ages and levels, Burton’s studio has ranged from young 3-year-olds, to older adult students. Burton is a trained and registered Suzuki teacher for books 1-4 on violin and viola. While she advocates for the Suzuki method for young beginners, she uses a wide variety of techniques and methods to cater to the needs of each individual student.
During her studies in Maryland, Burton was the Teaching Assistant to viola pedagogue, Katherine Murdock where she taught a weekly technique class and private lessons to undergraduate students. Additionally, she was a private instructor for Holton-Arms in Bethesda, Maryland. While living in Cleveland, she served as the director of the City Music Kidz after-school strings program and taught private lessons and sectionals at Mentor High School.
Burton is a sought-after educator in the Houston area, and is frequently a clinician for HSPVA, Klein High School, Kingwood High School, Atascocita High School and Klein Oak High School. In the past she has taught privately at various schools in the Houston area, including Clear Lake High School, the Kinkaid School, KIPP Sharp Elementary, and taught non-major students at Rice University.
In addition to her home studio, Burton currently serves as the viola professor at Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, Texas. The SHSU viola studio is active in the Huntsville community, performing in the community each semester.
